Home improvement and hardware chains Bunnings and Mitre 10 are working to maintain provision of critical flood remediation supplies and tools as Auckland customers begin cleaning up the damage from the recent extreme weather and flooding.

Submersible pumps, wet vacuums, flood dams, spouting, guttering and drain coil were in high demand during the initial days of rain and flooding according to the two chains.

Mitre 10 New Zealand Chief Merchandise Officer, Chris Peak told NZ Herald, “Initially, Aucklanders were in damage control mode and looking for things like submersible pumps, wet vacs, flood dams, and drain coil.”

“As the weekend unfolded and the clean-up got under way, demand shifted to mops, cleaning products, and dehumidifiers,” he said.

Mr Peak said that Mitre 10 had good stock levels across its network and was working closely with suppliers to ensure that would continue.

As remediation works and renovations begin on flooded homes and businesses, Mr Peak expects building materials to increase in demand as well, including plasterboard, flooring, and plywood.

Bunnings National Operations Manager, Derek Powell said that the Australian-based company was also working with suppliers to replenish products that are in high demand as quickly as possible.

Ensuring these high-demand products are provided when needed will assist in the clean-up of Auckland homes and businesses to go as smoothly and in the shortest time as possible.

Bunnings also has a helpful guide and list of essential tools and materials on how to prepare for a flood to better protect the home and family from future extreme weather and flooding events.
