Metcash has announced that Independent Hardware Group Chief Executive Officer, Annette Welsh, will step down from her current role to a corporate strategy and governance role by the end of August.

Annette has advised that after serving 15 years in senior management roles in IHG, including the last five as CEO, it is an appropriate time for her step down and hand over to a successor.

IHG’s General Manager of Merchandise, Geoff Harris, will act as interim CEO for IHG until the completion of a search process. The search will include internal and external candidates.  Annette will continue to be a board member in a number of IHG’s joint venture entities.

Metcash Group CEO, Doug Jones said, “Annette has made an enormous contribution to IHG and Metcash more broadly and, while disappointed, we understand and support her decision.  She will be staying on to help drive the continued growth of IHG and the Metcash Group, which is great news.”

“Geoff is a very experienced and capable executive and is well regarded by our suppliers and independent members. I am confident that he will perform admirably in the interim CEO role,” Mr Jones said.

Under Annette’s leadership, IHG has experienced growth across its key trade and DIY segments with sales increasing 35 per cent between FY19 and FY23.  Annette has overseen the success of key strategies focused on ‘growing independents’ and IHG’s joint venture and company-owned retail network, as well as its network of frame and truss sites as part of the group’s ‘Whole of House’ growth strategy.
