Global specialist in electrical and digital building infrastructure, Legrand® has recently announced its acquisition of VASS Electrical Industries.

(L-R) – Legrand ANZ Chief Executive Officer, Palash Nandy and VASS Managing Director Christopher Vass believe Legrand Australia’s acquisition of VASS Electrical Industries will allow both companies to provide a wider offer to their customers.

Based out of Ingleburn, New South Wales, VASS has been the Australian specialist and market leader in Busway power distribution solutions since 1958. Today, VASS has a strong focus on both the fast-growing data centre market, as well as commercial and infrastructure segments.

Combining VASS’ unique Busway power distribution solutions with Legrand’s existing electrical and digital building infrastructure products will enable both companies to provide a wider and more comprehensive offer to their customers.

The VASS acquisition is expected to strengthen Legrand Australia’s portfolio of brands and solutions for the data centre, commercial, industrial and infrastructure sectors.

Legrand ANZ Chief Executive Officer, Palash Nandy said the Legrand team are thrilled to welcome and work with the team at VASS

“Our investment in VASS, as well as Mechanical Support Systems (MSS) the New-Zealand market leader in cable management solutions in December 2023, demonstrates the active implementation of our growth strategy in the ANZ market and our focus on increasing our local manufacturing footprint.”

“I am confident that our combined market strengths and complementary solutions will improve the lives of our customers and accelerate their electrical, digital infrastructure and sustainability goals,” he said.

The leased data centre sector within the Australian data centre industry is currently undergoing dynamic growth, according to S&P Global Market Intelligence, with an anticipated CAGR of 15 per cent in revenue over the next three years driven by increasing internet traffic, AI and the surge in cloud computing. Data centres are also one of Legrand’s fastest growing segments, contributing to ~15% of its sales globally with Legrand seeing solid double-digit growth year-on-year on its data centre offering in Australia alone.

Joining Legrand is “a win-win situation”, according to VASS Managing Director Christopher Vass, who said the acquisition was the next logical step for VASS.

“Legrand is a market leader that shares our commitment to industry excellence and delivering smart, sustainable and innovative solutions. We are confident that joining Legrand will help our Australian and global customers take their businesses to greater heights and similarly provides Legrand with an avenue to increase and complement their offering to these markets,” Mr Vass said.

Legrand Australia currently distributes electrical and digital infrastructure solutions under six brands including Legrand, HPM, Bticino, Starline, Raritan and now, VASS. Local manufacturing from the Prestons facility represents 40 per cent of Legrand Australia’s revenue. Legrand also has a dedicated research and development team that design products and solutions specifically suited to the needs of the ANZ market.

For now, Legrand’s global strategic roadmap will continue to focus on initiatives in growth and development including targeted acquisitions, innovative product launches and expanding into new markets.
