Lowe’s is helping give children a safe place to sleep

For some children across the US, climbing into a bed at night is not a reality, but a 10-year partnership between Lowe’s and the non-profit Sleep in Heavenly Peace is seeing kids getting a better night’s sleep.

Lowe’s associates and their spouses rolled up their sleeves and built more than 100 beds alongside Sleep in Heavenly Peace for children in need in Las Vegas, Nevada.

“Everybody who has come here today is doing this out of the goodness of their hearts and that is what Lowe’s is all about. It is one of their core values to give back and be charitable to everyone, not just the people who come and shop in the stores,” said volunteer Michelle Vance.

Sleep in Heavenly Peace has a goal of making sure every child in the United States has a bed. Founder and Executive Director of Sleep in Heavenly Peace, Luke Mickelson, has been building beds for 10 years and says they have built nearly 150,000 in that time – a feat he says would not have been possible without their relationship with Lowe’s.

“We are super grateful for our partnership with Lowe’s. It really has been the catalyst for us to reach and service so many kids over the past 10 years and we look forward to working with Lowe’s until we reach that one-millionth kid,” said Mr Mickelson.

Merchandising Store Manager at Lowe’s store 1620, Gilbert Fletcher, says he sees the need for these beds.

“The need is overwhelming this is a great thing that Lowe’s is doing. I pass the homeless coming to work every morning and it hurts my heart when I see kids out there sleeping on the sidewalk. This is going to help a lot,” said Mr Fletcher.
