A new Total Tools store is set to be built in Wonthaggi by December this year and will co-locate with Mitre 10 on Billson Street (Cape Paterson Road) in the Victorian sea-side town.
The Mitre 10 hook up with Total Tools is expected to be a major positive for local tradesmen and keen hobbyists of Bass Coast and South Gippsland, according to a recent Sentinel-Times report. In the past locals had to source new equipment or power tools from Pakenham, Traralgon, Fountain Gate or Dandenong, as there was no specialist tool shop in town.
This will now change with the Total Tools store set to trade alongside the local Mitre 10. This partnership comes after the majority shareholding of Total Tools was purchased by Mitre 10 owner, Metcash, in July 2020 when it acquired a 70 per cent stake for $57 million.
According to the report, Total Tools is a business that has boomed throughout the pandemic after Metcash acquired the franchisor operations and two company-owned stores, with the structure of the acquisition leaving the door open to acquire the remaining 30 per cent stake by early 2024, according to the report.
Following the acquisition, Metcash Chief Executive Jeff Adams said he was delighted to have Total Tools, the largest independent tool network in Australia, join the Metcash Group.
“Total Tools is a complementary business to our Independent Hardware Group (IHG) and will present significant growth opportunities,” he said.
The new store is expected to be opened in the week leading up to Christmas.
