National Building Suppliers Group Holds National Conference
“Natbuild is a member owned buying group made up of large Australian independent building suppliers and hardware merchants. Our role is to defend and grow members’ competitive position and market share, so it is important that all members are involved in the group’s future buying strategies through events like our National Conference,” said Natbuild Chief Executive Frank Cordi.
“The National Conference is an excellent opportunity for our members to discuss future group strategies, stay abreast of industry initiatives, and of course socialise with fellow members from across Australia,” he says.
“This conference provided members with all the necessary information and tools to ensure best possible sales and profitability, including guest speakers, product displays and demonstrations. The conference also included several social and networking opportunities – like a cocktail party and a formal dinner – giving members the chance to catch up with their hardware and building industry peers from all over Australia.”
Mackay was chosen as the conference destination because it is home to host member Porters. Porters Home & Building Centre recently underwent some amazing redevelopments and part of the conference program involved an extensive tour of the upgraded facilities.
“Porters recently completed a $10 million redevelopment plan. It includes refurbishment of their main retail showroom and construction of a new building supplies outlet and plumbing division,” said Frank.
“The result is unlike anything seen in the local or national building supplies industry. Not only did the Porters redevelopment offer inspiration for Natbuild members, it also gave them the opportunity to learn and grow from the Porters redevelopment experience.”
More than 140 delegates from all Australian states and the Northern Territory attended the four day conference. When not networking, socialising or just talking business they were treated to visits to iconic Mackay sites. One of these was a trip to the General Gordon Hotel in Homebush, a historic country pub built by Charles Porter in the early 1900s.
This was followed by a visit to one of Australia’s largest and most efficient coal receiving and export facilities, Hay Point coal terminal, 38km South of Mackay. Members also got to enjoy first rate presentations from the likes of Kylie Porter, Director, Out of the Blue Marketing, and Phil Ruthven, Chairman and Founder of IBISWorld.
Overall, the conference was well received by all delegates and guests. Though it proved to be an invaluable opportunity for members to share information and actively participate, the conference was also highly memorable because of its enjoyable and relaxed atmosphere – in no small part due to the quality and warmth of all members. As for the next one, preparations are already underway…
