Danks new WA warehouse distribution facility to drive group growth for 2008 and beyond

Danks will open a new warehouse distribution facility in Welsh Pool Western Australian in the first half of 2008, about 2km from the current main facility in Kewdale.

The 10,000 square metre facility will be the largest distribution centre servicing hardware independents in WA and is expected to hold more than 20,000 items in stock at any given time.

This latest addition to Danks distribution infrastructure has drawn upon the significant expertise Danks employs within its ranks to create a result that, according to general manager John Tregaskis, will provide a significant competitive advantage for the group in WA by combining the three current distribution locations into one, state-of-the-art centre.

“While the Kewdale warehouse and our two smaller facilities have served us well since 1999, they are now totally inappropriate for both the current and future needs of our customers and suppliers,” said John. “The location of the new facilitiy also ensures we won’t lose good staff due to geographic inconvenience,” said John. It is anticipated that the new warehouse will employ 35 staff, the same number as the existing three facilities, with the potential to grow in alignment with the Danks business projections over coming years. The location will also include a two-storey office for the 12 state sales and marketing staff.

WA has been experiencing the highest growth of any state across the group, most recently with double figures for the 2006-2007 financial year. “By consolidating our WA staff and product under the one roof we expect to see further gains in overall productivity that will be reflected in higher service levels and reduction in prices that will keep our customers more competitive in the marketplace.

“This will help to drive the future growth of the Danks group in WA and also attract new group members,” said John.
