Not Just For The Handyman

Industrial design students from the University of Technology in Sydney are developing new designs for power tools with the intention of making them more accessible and easier to use. What began as an investigative project into the technological changes in the trades by fourth-year industrial design students has since narrowed its line of inquiry to a pilot study into power tools for new users, such as women and the elderly.

Students work in teams to develop new designs for the tools, after which the project will move into the next stage involving more detailed research based on the findings of the pilot study. The project is seeking support (financial or otherwise) to continue its investigation, and any enquires should be directed to Berto Pandolfo, industrial design lecturer at UTS, on (02) 9514 8986 or
