2008 Hardware Journal Young Retailer Of The Year
The ‘Young Retailer’ department was introduced in January this year as a way of recognising future talent. Every month we profile an up and coming young retail star and at the end of the year theHardware Journal and HB Fuller painstakingly decide on a winner.
Our inaugural ‘Hardware Journal Young Retailer Of The Year’ is 20 year old Matthew Di Sante from Costa’s Mitre 10 in Werribee, Victoria. Matthew joined Costa’s five years ago when he was fifteen years old and he has since completed Certificates II, III, IV and a Diploma in Retail Management. He is currently the hardware manager at Costa’s, in charge of the entire department including purchases, stock and promotions, and he was previously also in charge of the tool shop.
Although he was thrilled with the award, Matthew remains quite modest about it, attributing his success to the work environment at Costa’s. “Costa’s are fantastic to work for! If you work hard and want to learn and develop yourself then they will give you the opportunity to do that,” he said “They also entrusted me with the responsibility to make decisions in my department that will benefit our customers. It’s a great environment, and it’s the people who work there who really make it happen.”
Costa’s General Manager – Operations, Stuart Wainman, says that Matthew is one of those rare people who can comfortably work any department, whether it’s trade or consumer.
“Matthew is one of our most promising younger retailers. He’s hard working, reliable, dedicated, and has an incredible ability to detect trends in retail. He has a fantastic career in front of him,” said Stuart.
The Hardware Journal and HB Fuller congratulate Matthew on this achievement.
