To support its expansion and the ongoing drive to improve service to its members, Danks has announced the relocation of its Victorian distribution centres to a new state-of-the-art facility that will commence operations from March 2012. Located in Hoppers Crossing, 25 kilometres southwest of the Melbourne CBD, the 50,000m2 facility will provide a storage capacity that more than doubles Danks’ existing distribution centres, with area set aside for an additional 30% expansion. With larger volumes of stock available for distribution at any time, the site will utilise the latest in materials handling and computerised warehouse management systems to improve service efficiencies to Danks members across the Home Timber & Hardware, Thrifty-Link Hardware and Plants Plus Garden Centre groups, suppliers and Woolworths home improvement.Danks General Manager – Operations, Con Dekazos, says as the business continues to grow, it is crucial for Danks to have a robust facility that enables it to continue to meet the current and future needs of its members and suppliers. “By consolidating our existing Braeside and South Dandenong distribution centres to one larger, modern facility for both Danks and Woolworths home improvement, we are able to enhance our distribution processes to serve our members and suppliers better. While our current operations do not allow for our future growth, the new site has everything we need to provide better services and support for our growing membership.
“In the long run, the increased efficiency will reduce our operational costs while serving our customers better, ensuring they remain competitive in a dynamic marketplace.” Danks and Woolworths have an expert team on the ground who will ensure a smooth transition to the new site. In the meantime, until the new site is fully operational, it will be business as usual at the Braeside distribution centre.
