He joined Sutton Tools in 1970 in Adelaide as a storeman in what was then a small office and warehouse. He then took on the position of Sales Representative, whilst his wife Cynthia attended to the office and telephone sales. 1976 saw Chris move across to the Sutton Tools Victorian Head Office, taking on the role of State Distribution Manager. This position was under the helm of Alan Heathcote, National Sales and Marketing Manager. Due to his success and passion for the company and the hardware industry, Chris was promoted to National Sales Manager in the early 1980s.

In 1990, a decision was taken to split the industrial and hardware/retail sales at which time Chris was asked to take on the Consumer Products Division – National Sales Manager role to develop the company product range and market share in this sector. This is a role he has spent the past 15 years developing and excelling in.

Chris has had 40 years in the industry, 35 years of which have been with Sutton Tools. “It has been an exciting and rewarding journey and I’m so proud to have been part of a family dynasty that has continued to expand locally and overseas in a competitive environment,” said Chris. And why the bow tie all these years?

“Tool manufacturing can be viewed as a bit staid, I just wanted to bring some panache to the industry,” he said with a smile. Chris and Cynthia have plans to travel around Australia and we wish them all the best. Chris and the team at Sutton have entrusted the replacement of his position with hardware industry specialists, Lloyd Morgan.
