The 3D Paint & Colours’ National Conference was held in May in Auckland. It opened with a mini Trade Show giving suppliers the opportunity to meet and reacquaint themselves with 3D franchisees and showcase their new product offerings. The theme of the conference, ‘The Next Generation’, applied to an array of elements within the 3D group. 3D chief executive, Robert Guy, explained how ‘The Next Generation’ of 3D, was the result of evolution taking place in the areas of franchise models, store designs, the make up of franchisees, executive management, brand positioning and supplier relationships. “This evolution will result in a more potent, disciplined and sustainable 3D in the immediate future, regardless of volatility and uncertainty in the marketplace,” said Guy.
A keynote presentation by Graeme Jacobs, General Manager of Orica Consumer Products, gave insights into the current dynamics of the industry and reaffirmed Dulux’s ongoing relationship with 3D as channel partners in the paint specialist channel.
Joel Goodsir, the group’s National Marketing Manager, outlined the changes that have taken place with the group’s branding strategy and subsequent new creative platform; “love what you’ve done”. The social itinerary over the four days included a traditional Maori welcome ceremony and cocktail party, golf at Maungakiekie Golf Club, indoor skiing at Snowplanet, a shopping tour at Dressmart, vineyard tour on Waiheke Island, harbour sailing on an America’s Cup maxi yacht and an authentic Maori hungi in a marquee set on a private property above Bethels Beach.
