In commemoration of the 100 Year Anniversary of the Crescent brand, a limited edition Crescent Anniversary tool range has been released offering exciting products with fantastic bonuses and value added packs. 100 Years is a long time for any product or brand to successfully exist and Crescent has continued over the years to offer quality and innovation in hand tools to its customers. Many people would not be aware of the important role that the Crescent Wrench has played in memorable historic events.

The year was 1907. The place, Jamestown, New York. Swedish immigrant Karl Peterson, a small machine shop owner and inventor, created a wooden model of a revolutionary new tool … an adjustable open-end wrench. What followed is one of the greatest success stories in the history of hand tools. The Crescent Adjustable Wrench, as it was called at the time, was an overnight sensation, but it was the rise of the automobile, most notably the Ford Model T, that provided a perfect market for the versatile new tool. In the early 1900s, car owners had to be handy with tools. Brake adjustments were expected, but most other repairs were not. So many cars came with a tool kit containing an essential tool for the motorist…a Crescent® brand adjustable wrench.

On May 20, 1927, newspapers around the world reported that Charles “Lucky Lindy” Lindbergh had successfully made the first solo trans-Atlantic flight. Lindbergh was quoted as saying he carried only “gasoline, sandwiches, a bottle of water, and a Crescent wrench and pliers.” Other famous explorers and adventurers also expanded the brand’s reputation over the following decades. Nautilus commander Sir Hubert Wilkins considered Crescent tools to be essential supplies on his historic trip beneath the Arctic ice, and high altitude balloonist Captain A.W. Stevens carried a Crescent adjustable wrench 72,395-feet aloft on his record setting flight in 1935. As exploration expanded into space, NASA specified that Crescent tools be included on early manned Gemini flights.

In 2007, the Crescent brand is celebrating its 100th anniversary. The world has changed remarkably since 1907, and so has Crescent. Numerous design improvements over the years have made today’s tools lighter, stronger and longer-lasting, with an expanded line of products including locking pliers and a new offering of tongue and groove pliers. With the same dedication to quality and innovation that were key to its success so far, Crescent is looking forward to a future of challenges and promise.
