Mitre 10 Comes to Town

Mitre 10 has further expanded its national network with the addition of stores in Arndell Park (NSW), Mooroopna (Vic) and Whyalla (SA).

The store owners of Blacktown Building Supplies in Arndell Park rejoined the Mitre 10 network after being impressed and enthused by Mitre 10’s new direction, growth strategy and alignment with Metcash. The store has been repainted with Mitre 10 branding, with an interior refresh to follow. In addition, the store’s retail product range will be expanded in coming months.

Part-owner Phillip Screpis says Mitre 10’s new direction and commitment to independent retailing is what drew them back to Mitre 10 over others.

“Since our business was established, we have been proudly independent, had a strong family-oriented culture and have been seen as part of the local community,” he said. “With these values inherent in the cultures of Metcash and Mitre 10, converting to Mitre 10 was the right strategic fit for us and will allow us to continue to be a community-focused business.”

“The most impressive part of Mitre 10 is the hands-on approach of management and its ability to develop strategies that drive foot traffic,” added Gary Attard, also part-owner of the store. “We like what we see from Mitre 10 and are glad to be back.”

The Mooroopna Mitre 10 involved the conversion of a Home Hardware & Timber store in March. Store owners Allen and Jenni Hunter bought their hardware business in 1984. In the 27 years since, they have continued to expand to become a vital part of the local community.

“What we are most looking forward to is the feeling of belonging to a family of independent stores who care about each other and the success of the Mitre 10 business. “The Mitre 10 brand is a strong one, with great support behind it and we’re looking forward to the change,” said Mr Hunter. Another Home Hardware & Timber store to convert to Mitre 10 was Bob’s in Whyalla, which transferred its allegiance in April. The Whyalla hardware business started in 1982.
