Mitre 10 in Tatura

Mitre 10 in Tatura

A fully refurbished Viberts Mitre 10 in Tatura (VIC) recently held its grand opening.
Store owners Richard and Jackie Vibert joined the Mitre 10 network after being impressed and enthused by Mitre 10’s growth strategy, strong marketing program and alignment with Metcash.

“Mitre 10 has a notable history and the dedication shown to the independent hardware industry is something very important and appealing to us,” Richard said. “We are a family-oriented and family focussed business. We’re a proud local business and with these values inherent in the cultures of Metcash and Mitre 10, converting to Mitre 10 was the right fit for us.

“We have the utmost confidence in the Mitre 10 brand and are excited about the journey ahead of us”. Richard and Jackie Vibert took over the store from the Montgomery family in 1980. They have a unique association with the Goulburn Valley, with the first Viberts store opening in Shepparton in 1889.

The Viberts have three children, and while Jackie does not work in the store, daughter Alex works there part-time. “My other two children, Samantha and Thomas, have both worked in the business previously,” says Richard Vibert. The recently converted Tatura store has been repainted with Mitre 10 branding, and has had an interior refresh. In addition, the store’s retail product range will be expanded in coming months.

Richard explains Viberts Mitre 10 is now a one-stop, modern store with a nursery so there is no need to go out of town for hardware, timbers, plants, pottery mix, fertiliser, building supplies, paint or garden equipment. “We pride ourselves on having friendly, experienced local staff who are only too willing to assist customers with any enquiries they may have,” he adds.

“As a family owned local business, we are extremely proud of what we have achieved in the past, and look forward to continuing that strong community relationship with Tatura and district residents, in partnership with the Mitre 10 group.

“We hope Tatura and district residents will take the new concept on-board and drop in to Viberts Mitre 10 for a look and a chat. “While we are joining a national company, it is important that we retain all those things that have made us a valued member of this community…People will certainly notice a big difference if they have not visited the store for a while.” Mitre 10 chief executive Mark Laidlaw says, “The conversion is testament to the strength of the Mitre 10 business model that fosters and champions independence amid a rapidly changing industry.

“As the hardware industry becomes increasingly competitive with new entrants to the market, hardware store owners are evaluating their options. “Mitre 10 is Australia’s only true independent hardware retailer and with the backing of Metcash is well positioned to further develop independent hardware retailing. For store owners who have always enjoyed independence and a community spirit, Mitre 10 is the right strategic fit. “Hardware store owners contemplating their place in the future of the industry should consider what independence means to them.”
