Bunnings to Open Australia’s Largest Ever Warehouse
The largest warehouse in the southern hemisphere is being built in the Melbourne suburb of Vermont
The new complex, which will be 16,550 square metres in size, will have more than 979 bays (or 3 kms) of merchandise in the main store, which will feature a series of significant innovations for the hardware chain. The advanced layout design includes an enhanced lighting section and additional space for supplier demonstrations.
According to Peter Davis, Bunnings Chief Operating Officer, the innovative changes in the new warehouse are the result of customer feedback and analysis of international trends, following overseas study tours completed by a number of the Bunnings team.
“While the warehouse will offer all the services that Bunnings customers have come to expect, it will also showcase the latest retail trends,” said Mr Davis. “Our DIY workshops, including Kids Clinics and Ladies nights, continue to grow in popularity and we have worked with our suppliers to create a new series of workshops,” said Mr Davis.
The new warehouse will also feature a revolutionary outdoor living concept known as the ‘Fifth Room’, where customers will be able to browse through the latest in outdoor furniture, water features, outdoor lighting and landscaping.
“The largest toolshop ever developed, more than double that of those in our current network, will feature demonstration areas to educate customers about the product range,” said Mr Davis. The new warehouse will create more than 200 jobs for the local community and will represent an investment of $25 million. Providing parking space for over 500 cars, the Bunnings Warehouse will have a gross building area of approximately 16,550 sq m, including a 9,858 sq m main warehouse, 1,880 sq m under cover timber drive through and a 3,540 sq m nursery.
