Nordsjö Fillers

Creating safer and healthier homes – the smart way

While the Nordsjö brand is not a new face in the Aussie hardware market – it has a long and celebrated legacy. Nordsjö is well known locally as a fillers brand that was first introduced to the market in the 1980s from Sweden, where the Nordsjö name is more commonly associated with the umbrella paint company.

Much to the despair of local contractors and DIY guns, the Nordsjö brand presence in Australia was disrupted in the early 2010s due to some product deletions and issues. However after Sean Stonestreet stepped into as Managing Director of Prep Productions, the Aussie-owned family business responsible for the Organoil range and other beloved locally manufactured products, he set his sights on the Nordsjö brand and tried to figure out a way to get it back into the Australian market.

“Through my conversations with retail partners and painters, I could see the market was really mourning the Nordsjö range and struggling to find a product that ticked half as many boxes. I reached out to AkzoNobel in 2018 and began the process of figuring how we could make this work. Within a few weeks of conversations, the word got out and the number of old customers that came out of the woodworks, reaching out for more information and showing their support, was really reassuring. I knew I was on the right track pretty much straight away,” he said.

Sean says the Nordsjö professional fillers portfolio is a cut above anything else out there, and reflects the technical know-how of the AkzoNobel company.

“It became pretty clear that these guys really know what they are doing when it comes to product development. They continually invest in new product development, expand their portfolio and tinker with the innovative edge of what is possible. Because we are manufacturers ourselves, we really speak the same language and share that passion for quality, innovation and product development.”

“With the help of the team in their pre-deco expertise centre in Holland we have the ability to effortlessly choose our assortment from a large pool of products in AkzoNobel’s global portfolio. I personally visited the centre to discuss our market needs with the experts because I really wanted to mimic the much-loved past range as much as possible. We quickly identified a range of advanced recipes, evolving and building on those previously on the market here in Australia,” Sean said.

AkzoNobel’s experts also understand the needs of professional and home painters. The range includes a filler for every need and purpose, including a Rapid Repair Filler, Light & Smooth Super Filler, Flexible Wood Filler, Universal Fine Filler and an Exterior Super Filler. They are all functional, long-lasting and super versatile, perfect for any users who are in need of a reliable and time efficient solution.

“This is really just the beginning of what we know is going to be a long and successful presence in Australia. We are investing a lot in continuing to develop this brand, the portfolio and our relationships, because we are convinced that this is going to be an absolute game changer in the filler market here in Australia. So far, the word we are getting from retailers and customers, whether that is professionals or home experts, has been so positive. They are so glad it is back and they are incredibly supportive of how it looks and performs,” Sean said.

Better yet, the Nordsjö range is now part of a really positive homegrown Australian story.

“We are proud to be a family business that is embedded in the Australian hardware industry. We have got retailers, customers and mates all over the country, and they are relationships we have been building for decades. We have been making our products here in Australia for more than thirty years, and I am so proud to be working in a job I have stepped into a role that my Dad once held,” Sean said.
