A TEAM Merchandising is a national service provider to the hardware channel. We are proud to announce that we now engage 130 Field Merchandisers who are supported with Field Sales Supervisors in all regions. Our customer support team comprises of administration support, together with account management and operations.
A Team Live update
A Team Live is a web based reporting system which has been developed specifically and exclusively to A Team Merchandising. A Team Live has been designed and engineered to facilitate and meet the requirements of the hardware channel and more specifically Bunnings Building Supplies Pty. Ltd.
A Team Live can be accessed securely by our clients or our management teams anywhere in the world. If you can access the worldwide web, you can access A Team Live and ‘your’ A Team Merchandising Field Team.
Since launching A Team Live, the program has become an instrumental communication and management tool across numerous tasks and clients being serviced in seven regions. A Team Live also ensures tasks and standards via supervisor/account sign off. The program enhancements are ongoing with many additional elements introduced again this year.
Transparency to field is paramount to our client base – whether it is standard VIS service calls or specific projects such as new product introductions, relays, off location activity or a simple follow up or contact with a store employee. Likewise our field supervisors have direct access to all infield activities and journey planners by client. Client access also includes media, feedback to questions, together with any issues identified and reported.
A Team Live allows us to communicate and detail requirements infield via message servicing and email together with media instruction and training. Ever increasing demands in terms of distribution objectives by suppliers and retailers, A Team Live can provide visual report detail by site for promotional activities such as Side Stacks and Clip Strips in one report. Efficiencies and immediacy are apparent infield and can easily be applied to updated product listings, alllocations, gap checks and the like.

A Team field investment and enhancement
Late last year we announced engaging a local supervisor for SA, which is also to be included in the NT. This measure is working extremely well as we have promoted from within to ensure a good working knowledge of A Team and its clients expectations.
The introduction of 2ICs in Queensland, New South Wales, Victoria and Western Australia is further supporting and ensuring that our supervisors also have specific back up and expertise for those times, when they can’t be in two places at once!

A Team Merchandising Director, Lyn Coghlan, recently won the 2017 Hardware Industry Legend Award at the Victorian/Tasmanian Hardware Industry Awards, held in Melbourne on October 28. Lyn was recognised for her extensive career in hardware, which began with Lyn being one of the first women in the industry to ever work as a sales rep. Lyn was a ground breaker when she began her career, and remains a well-known leader, continually demonstrating her ability to not only challenge, but also drive advancement in all aspects of the hardware industry.
Yale Simplicity makes it easy
With the population growth in major Australian cities in recent years combined with low interest rates, demand for property has been particularly strong. Multi-residential developments have been prominent as well as new housing estates. This demand has seen property prices reach record levels. As a result affordability has become a key issue for buyers as well as investors. With developments being built at a rapid pace, quality and cost have become important factors to consider.
ASSA ABLOY Australia has recently launched the Yale Simplicity Series, which offers affordable quality door furniture for multi-residential developments. Finished in 304 grade stainless steel, the leverset range is ideally suited to complement modern apartment interiors and entrance doors. The Passage Set can be combined with a mortice lock and used as an Entrance Set or simply installed with a passage latch as a Passage Set. A separate Privacy Set is also available. Either way, the Simplicity Series provides an attractive affordable solution.
Compliant, intuitive design
Conforming to the specific requirements of multi-residential developments, the Simplicity Series Leversets have been successfully tested up to two hours with a fire rated Lockwood mortice lock on fire door assemblies (depending on type of doorset). Two lever designs are offered, both of which are AS1428.1 compliant and are available in Passage and Privacy configurations.
The stylish Privacy Sets come complete with privacy latches. The Passage Sets are sold separately from the passage latches, providing the option of using them as Entrance Sets when installed with mortice locks. Matching standard turn knobs and oval cylinder escutcheons are also available to complete the look.
The two lever options when fitted to a door, look good and are user friendly to operate. Being AS1428.1 compliant with a good return, a positive grip is easy to achieve for these intuitive levers.
Affordable hardware made easy
Yale Simplicity offers durable apartment door furniture at an affordable price. With installation in mind, these levers can be quickly transformed from operable to fixed levers onsite. Being symmetrically designed, no handing is required. Each new leverset will suit either a left or right handed door straight out of the box. However, if there is ever a reason to change handing, the process is quick and easy to achieve by following the installation instructions.
If required the latches are also easy to hand onsite. A quick pull and twist action is all that is required to change the handing of the latch.
The Yale Simplicity Passage Sets can be installed on doors from 32-55mm thick and the Privacy Sets from 32-45mm thick. Yale Simplicity can therefore be used in conjunction with a wide range of door options making the selection process easier.

Next year Mapei Australia will celebrate 25 years of providing quality chemical products to the building and construction industries.
Mapei was established in Australia on the 20th April 1993, as a sales office located on the Gold Coast in Queensland.
Mapei has supplied product to many prestigious projects, including the Melbourne Aquatic Centre, Brisbane International Airport and the Palazzo Versace Hotel on the Gold Coast, and also has a long history of Mapei subsidiaries supplying adhesives and related products to the Commonwealth and Olympic Games venues.
Mapei was also commissioned to supply primers, levelling compounds, adhesives, grouts and silicone sealants for the 2000 Sydney Olympic Games venues. These venues included: the Olympic Stadium, the Olympic Aquatic Centre (including the competition and diving pools), the Sydney Superdome, the Olympic Village, the State Hockey Centre, the Sydney International Airport, the Lidcombe Railway Station, as well as various new apartment buildings.
Mapei has been involved in the tiling and waterproofing of all major airports in Australia, and has also played an integral part in the construction of many apartment buildings, private residences, and swimming pool complexes. It has also supplied products to iconic buildings such as the Sydney Opera House, the Melbourne Cricket Ground and various other significant venues.
With so much infrastructure and product required for these projects, the Mapei Group (in keeping with its corporate policy of constant internationalisation) invested in Mapei Australia, by building a production plant and offices in Archerfield, Brisbane in time to produce and supply local product for the Olympics.
With the original plant reaching capacity, a new site was located and a new state-of-the-art production plant was built and commissioned in late 2015 in Wacol, Brisbane. This plant produces both powdered product as well as admixtures for cement and concrete.
Mapei now has offices and warehouses in Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide and Perth and technical sales representatives servicing North Queensland, the Northern Territory and Tasmania.
Mapei Australia now employs over 80 staff and produces over 200 tonnes of powdered product per day. New cutting-edge production technology used in Mapei’s production facilities, allows for accurate and constant quality control, from raw-materials to final packaging.
To complement the new production facilities, Mapei also boasts a new logistics warehouse, container unloading zone, despatch office, R & D laboratory, quality control laboratory, training centre, technical assistance team, administration offices, and product trials area.
Education and training
Mapei’s product training courses are held in all Australian offices and it also promotes Waterproofing Accreditation courses and Product Installation workshops, enabling contractors to perfect the application techniques used when installing its products.

Sustainability and accrediation
Mapei prides itself on the supply of ‘eco-sustainable products’ that contribute valuable points towards Green Star credits. Mapei is a member of the Green Building Council of Australia and actively promotes the use of ‘green’ products that are not harmful to the installer nor the end-user. Mapei Australia has also attained ISO 9001:2008 Quality Management certification and will endeavour to obtain certification to the 2015 Standard early in 2018.
Mapei Australia is also a proud member of the Italian Chamber of Commerce. This organisation is important to Mapei to sustain vital contact with industry leaders as well as provide support to the local Italian community.
Founded in Milan in 1937, Mapei is today one of the most important producers of adhesives and complementary products for the installation of flooring and wall coverings. The company also specialises in other chemical products for building, from waterproofers to special mortars, and from admixtures for concrete to products for the restoration of ancient buildings. Mayo Hardware continues to focus on being the ‘category captain’ in portable security and the outdoor lifestyles categories, delivering innovative competitively priced products that offer customers the best possible margins. Established in 1928, the business continues to be owned and run by a third generation of the Mayo family.
In 2018, Master Lock is expanding on the success of the Bluetooth padlock with a range of Bluetooth Key Safes which offer the freedom to protect and control access to homes, businesses, vacation or rental properties from users’ smartphones. The free and easy to use Master Lock eLocks app allows users to assign who can access their property, for how long and schedule access for future dates. It is the smart and simple way to secure property and manage access from anywhere at any time.
The Thermacell range has recently been extended to include the Rugged Portable Repeller, Halo Table Top Repeller and two Lantern models. Both models feature the new Zone Check system that allows users to see the product is functional or when it has run out of butane.

A busy 2017
Within these contexts, 2017 has been a frenetic year. Having purchased Agnew’s Water Putty in September 2016, we spent much of 2017 helping both customers and retailers realise the full potential of this exciting range of Australian-made fillers for top-end furniture and cabinetry uses. It has been particularly gratifying to see brand new applications emerge for Agnew’s products, which date back to 1929.
The past year has also been a period of significant growth in our Glue Dots® adhesives range. Since we brought this extraordinary adhesives technology to the Australian market just over a year ago, it has won a loyal following among hardware, home improvement, art & craft, and education markets. These ‘no mess, no waste’ adhesives, which allow users to apply a preformed dot of non-toxic glue onto a surface, come in a wide range of strengths and two dispensing modes (flat sheet or dispenser), and are readily matched to an array of defined market segments.
Throughout 2017 Timbermate Group also expanded its ranges of PC Epoxy Putties and Pastes, which are extremely useful hand-mouldable putties and paste sticks designed for fast repairs and gap filling tasks across a broad range of materials, from concrete and metal to timber and plumbing-grade PVC pipe. New products in this line include PC-Super Epoxy® and PC-Concrete™.
PC Super Epoxy is a non-drip translucent paste epoxy, which delivers superb results vertically or overhead. This product is non-conductive and bonds all major classes of materials with a super-fast curing time of just four hours.
PC-Concrete™, similarly, has unlimited uses across domestic and commercial markets. This non-shrinking anchoring and crack-filling epoxy, dispensed with a standard caulking gun, is the product of choice for repairing cracks in factory floors, bonding bolts and sill plates, and all other ultra-tough applications above or below the waterline. No odours, and solvent-free.
We also conducted a successful retail rollout of Concremate® (expanding filler) in handy trade packs of 1kg, 4kg and 10kg sizes. This product has had great success in industrial markets, but is also perfect for the DIY market. This quick- setting, high-strength, shrinkage-compensating cement is ideal for patching, repairing and anchoring. It is easy to mix and apply, sets in 30 minutes, and cures rock hard in an hour.
Bring on 2018
Timbermate Group is set to release even more great products – all high-quality items with established overseas markets – into Australian hardware stores over the coming year.
As transportation, trade and logistics industries grow at a rapid pace, there is a growing demand for effective, easy-to-use tie-down systems to keep loads secure and safe. The solution: Tie Boss tie-downs (www.tieboss.com) which operate with pull-tight/pull-release simplicity in vehicles and workshops, while also boasting additional functionality when used as overhead storage slings of items up to 136kg in commercial and domestic settings.
Another superbly designed product set to join the Timbermate stable in 2018 is the One-Tie (http://deratie.com), which includes a range of advanced plastic ties designed to bind and keep tidy all types of electrical cables, ropes, wires and other bundled goods.
And keep an eye out for the CanGun1 tool (www.cangun1.com), which is a pistol grip attachment that clicks onto any aerosol paint spray can. Transform spray cans into spray guns for better control and lower user fatigue.
While brilliant products are the backbone of any retail enterprise, Timbermate Group has always understood the importance of reliable supply chains, as well as fair and professional retail partnerships. Therefore, the group has just reworked some of its distribution methods to ensure the highest possible standards. In WA, Strikeforce has been appointed as merchandising partner with responsibility for servicing Bunnings stores, while GAP Distributors will take care of local independent stores. In SA, Keanys has been appointed to service both Bunnings and independent stores.
With these arrangements in place, combined with our exciting list of new and established products, 2018 is set to be a bumper year for Timbermate and its retail hardware friends.
