Glenvale Publications was founded in 1973 with the purchase of Australian Hardware Journal (AHJ) – the oldest hardware industry magazine in the Southern Hemisphere.
The original team comprised of Kate Kennedy, working as editor alongside managing director Graeme Cox who also undertook the sales role. Through their efforts they consolidated the magazine’s status as a truly national publication of the highest quality. Working at the company’s first headquarters in St Kilda Road, Melbourne, they oversaw the AHJ growth and set the scene for the multi-magazine company that Glenvale Publications is today.
The AHJ, first published in 1886, is the ideal marketing vehicle for promoting products and services to the hardware industry. The core readership comprises hardware retailers as well as specialists from the timber, building supply, plumbing, paint, tool, garden and outdoor industries. The AHJ reaches approximately 6,500 readers every month, and is regarded as an indispensable industry resource.
Over the years other publications have joined the Glenvale Group. In 1979, Glenvale purchased Auto Parts and Accessories (APA). It is the only automotive after-market industry journal in Australia that reaches more than 7,500 trade professionals. It is published bi-monthly.
Just one year later Glenvale purchased Power Equipment Australia (PEA). PEA offers news, views and product releases to power equipment dealers and mowing contractors. It keeps readers up-to-date and informed about innovations and trends in their dynamic industry. It is also published bi-monthly with a circulation of 7,632. As PEA content grew larger and more varied, it spawned an offshoot specialist publication called Golf & Sports Turf Australia (GST). Glenvale Publications printed the first issue of GST in 1993. Since then it has grown to become the country’s premier specialist publication aimed at bringing expert, technical information to professionals in the turf grass industry. Our 5,500 bi-monthly subscribers come from a cross-section of leisure and civic institutions – from racecourses and municipal councils to schools, golf clubs and resorts.
In 1983, the company purchased Greenworld magazine, which has a proven track record as Australia’s leading trade magazine to the retail and landscape sectors of the horticultural industry. It delivers bi-monthly news and views to an audited circulation base of 6,699.
Due to Glenvale’s growth the company left St Kilda Rd at the end of the 1980s and moved to larger premises before finally settling at its present headquarters in Palmer Court, Mount Waverley, in 1991. From its beginnings with just two staff, the company now has a staff of 18.
